Which Accompaniments To Go With

Your meat joint should dominate the plate yet it should have some company too. Always keep in mind the meat to vegetable ratio, ideally the meat should take up around a third of the plate which leaves ample room for accompaniments. The right side dishes with the right sauce can all add up to lift your perfect joint.

Simple Side Dishes

Everyone has their favourite way of enjoying a meat joint and this is usually by keeping it simple. The French have Steak-Frites which is basically steak served with a portion of French Fries though you could try your own variation with chunkier Steak Chips paired with a crisp Green Salad. The humble potato works well with meat joints so you should also consider Mashed Potatoes, Boiled Potatoes or Roast Potatoes. If you wanted to add something more subtle you can try Green Beans, Carrots, Garlic Butter Mushrooms or simply Steamed Asparagus with a dash of freshly ground black pepper.

The Right Sauces

While you should consider a Rich Roast Gravy to go with your meat joint or a Pepper Sauce to accompany your steak there are several other sauces you should try. If you wanted to add some bite and colour to your steak you could rustle up a Salsa Verde though for something truly indulgent we would recommend a Blue Cheese Sauce. There is also Tasty Onion Gravy which works well with Pork or Beef Sausages.

Remember that your meat joint or perfect steak should be the star of your plate yet the right side dish and the right sauce can bring it all together.
